     On September 26th, the third China Turkey Exchange Forum was held. Du Zhanyuan, Director of the Chinese Foreign Language and Culture Bureau, Mustafa Tuzku, Deputy Minister of Trade of Türkiye, Ozgur Yawuz, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, Cheng Weihua, Minister Counsellor and Charg é d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Türkiye, Esra Jiang Kuolur, Director of the Department of Bilateral Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, attended and delivered speeches. Media think tanks, officials Entrepreneurs and others engaged in heated discussions around the theme of "Focusing on the Eurasian continent and jointly discussing China Turkey economic and trade cooperation". The forum is jointly hosted by the China Foreign Language and Culture Bureau and the Tukuwaz Media Group.

 

     

Du Zhanyuan, Director of the China Foreign Languages Bureau, stated in his speech that over two thousand years ago, the "Silk Road" spanning the Eurasian continent built a bridge for commercial and cultural exchanges between China and Turkey, and made positive contributions to the progress of human civilization.     President Erdogan also expressed the hope of promoting bilateral trade, investment and other cooperation to achieve more results. This forum focuses on economic and trade cooperation between China and Turkey, which is of great significance in promoting the stability and development of the strategic cooperation relationship between the two countries, enhancing people's well-being, and achieving common development.

Du Zhanyuan pointed out that both sides need to enhance political mutual trust and consolidate the foundation of economic and trade cooperation. Both sides should start from the perspective of promoting the development and revitalization of both countries and realizing their respective national dreams, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, strengthen cooperation, and jointly maintain regional and world peace and stability; We need to strengthen strategic alignment, expand the space for economic and trade cooperation, and further strengthen cooperation in areas such as technological innovation, green economy, public health, and infrastructure; To practice multilateralism and assist in the recovery of the world economy; We need to deepen people-to-people and cultural exchanges, promote mutual understanding between the two peoples, and especially hope to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between young people, media and think tanks in both countries.

In his speech, Mustafa Tuzku, the Deputy Minister of Trade of Türkiye, said that under the joint promotion of the two heads of state, the cooperation between Türkiye and China is growing day by day. Even under the shadow of the increasing protectionist tendencies and trade wars in recent years, and the global epidemic, Türkiye and China can achieve growth performance higher than the global growth and trade growth in 2020 and 2021, and China has become Türkiye's second largest trading partner. He believed that in the medium and long term, the two sides should strengthen cooperation, formulate common strategies, attract Chinese investors to Türkiye, and help Türkiye's enterprises to export more high-quality goods to China to meet the needs of China's expanding wealthy class.

 

 

The Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye, Ozgur Yavuz, said in his speech that the friendly relations between the two peoples have a history of hundreds of years and are deeply rooted; Thanks to the "Steel Silk Road" across the Asian continent, China and Türkiye are connected again. Both countries have a long history, profound cultural background, and cultural values, and are taking important steps towards human development and progress. Since the establishment of the strategic cooperation relationship in 2010, the cooperation between the two countries in politics, economy, culture, technology and other fields has reached a satisfactory scale. He believes that with the close cooperation between Turkey and China in various fields, the cooperation and exchanges between the two sides in the fields of culture and tourism will continue to increase, promoting deeper understanding and friendly exchanges between the two peoples.

Cheng Weihua, Minister Counsellor and Charg é d'affaires ad interim of the Chinese Embassy in Türkiye, said in his speech that both the Turkish and Chinese governments have strong political will to deepen bilateral relations, the two peoples have friendly feelings towards each other, and the potential for bilateral economic and trade cooperation is huge. He believes that Turkey and China should further strengthen the foundation of political mutual trust, respect each other's core interests and major concerns, and properly handle differences and sensitive issues; Deeply promote the docking between the "the Belt and Road" initiative and the "Middle Corridor" strategy, especially give full play to Türkiye's regional advantages in connecting the Eurasian continent, and make contributions to maintaining the stability and smoothness of the global supply chain industry chain; Expand cooperation in emerging fields such as the digital economy, new energy, and high-tech, and create new growth points for economic and trade cooperation between Turkey and China; Actively guiding the people of both countries to have a more objective and accurate understanding of each other's countries, so as to deepen the friendship between Turkey and China.

The Director of the Department of Bilateral Political Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, Esra Jiangkuurur, said in his speech that since 2011, bilateral relations between the two countries have been upgraded to the level of strategic cooperation, especially through dialogue mechanisms such as the Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, the Mixed Economic and Trade Committee, and the consultation mechanism of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the areas of cooperation between the two countries have been expanding and many cooperation projects have been carried out. She stated that the cooperation between the two countries not only contributes to China and Turkey, but also contributes to global peace and prosperity.

 

Fifteen media think tanks, officials, entrepreneurs and other people from both China and Turkey launched heated discussions on three sub topics, namely, "the the Belt and Road connects with the" Middle Corridor "," the post epidemic era, China Turkey economic and trade cooperation with adverse growth ", and" jointly building regional multilateral cooperation ".

In view of how the two countries can align their development strategies, Zan Tao, director of the Türkiye Research Center of Peking University, proposed that it is also necessary for the academic circles of the two countries to build a bridge of friendship and cooperation.

Ms. Darya Gercher, Director of the Department of Regional Studies of the Middle East University of Science and Technology of Türkiye, explained with the results of the field survey that Türkiye had carried out intensive diplomatic and commercial initiatives with Central Asian countries, and suggested that ports and logistics centers should play an important role in the "the Belt and Road" initiative in the future.

Wang Lincong, Deputy Director of the Institute of West Asia and Africa of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, suggested that we should innovate ways to promote the strategic docking between the "the Belt and Road" and the "Middle Corridor", optimize the docking conditions, improve the docking quality of initiatives, and deepen institutional innovation cooperation.

Fuerkang Karakaya, Deputy Director of the Investment Bureau of the President's Office of the Republic of Türkiye, said that, taking into account China's direct investment potential and technical strength, he believed that China was an important source of investment for Türkiye, and hoped that China would increase its investment in markets like Türkiye with huge regional opportunities.

The guests introduced and exchanged various information, including economic and trade, between China and Turkey from different perspectives, and made many constructive judgments and suggestions. The guests discussed a wide range of topics, with rich and innovative viewpoints, which is of great significance for the future cooperation and development between China and Turkey.

 

 

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the local edition of "China Today", the inaugural ceremony of "China Today · China Turkey Economic and Trade Special Issue" was held during the forum.
